ASIA INSTITUTE INVESTOR SUMMIT

March 23, 2017  |  Conrad Hotel  |  Hong Kong

With an emphasis on the greater North Asia region (China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan), this one day meeting provides access to the largest institutional asset owners from across Asia alongside members of the Asia Institute. The peer-to-peer component of the meeting allows for off the record exchange of views between executives, investors, and regulators.

About

Investors continue to grapple with a turbulent economic, political and investment environment, where the expectations are for lower-for-longer returns, greater disparity in returns between asset classes, and heightened volatility. Although central banks have sought to keep markets calm with high levels of monetary stimulus, questions arise as to how the global economy migrates out of a negative rate environment without triggering a downturn.

Elections globally have also seen a shift towards populist candidates, which have typically shown no resolve to address fiscal deficits and structural economic malaise. Furthermore, the geopolitical landscape is in a state of flux, with regional challenges to the US hegemony stretching from Syria, to Eastern Europe, and across the South China Sea.

To counter these layers of uncertainly, investors across Asia have sought to incorporate more sophisticated forms of risk management (e.g. – downside protection overlays), diversified further into non-correlating strategies, allowed further flexibility in their DAA/TAA approach, and conducted more rigorous scenario analysis, among other measures.

The Asia Institute Investor Summit

provides key institutional investment decision makers and leaders with a platform to discuss these specific issues candidly with peers and experts. Investors will be able to share the approaches their organisations have taken to managing investments, their relative success/failure and how they’re planning to reform strategies going forward.
